Navigating This Site

What's Changed Recently: The site is now split into two sections; Sailing, and Messinia.  The main site index, lower on this page, is the simplest way to find what you want.  Contents of this page are:

     1. What the site offers

     2. About Us: If you really want to know . . . here

     3. Site Index: Links to take you straight there

     4. News: What's changed and when

The Next Change: The sailing elements of this site are mostly  transferred to http://jimbsail.info , with much improved maps. We recommend you use the new site for Mediterranean and Biscay cruising information. It's growing weekly, and it is interactive if you log in as a site member - this enables you to add your comments and opinions to the various pages.

What this Site Offers:

Sailing

"(slightly out of date!) Information to help skippers plan cruises in Europe."

Our 'Sailing' pages compare most of the best cruising areas from N Scotland to Turkey. We give opinions highlighting the challenges, the delights and the differences to make your choice of sailing area and destinations easier.

From the main Sailing page you reach detail pages covering N Spain, the Balearics, Sicily & Malta, Sardinia & Corsica, and Greece (which is yet further subdivided into East, West and North.) Turkey and the Adriatic are available to the public on the CA site.

Messinia

"Information for visitors to Messinia".

Messinia, in the SW Peloponese, is an area easily explored from Finikounda, our summer home. Our guide includes places to see, things to do, travel advice, bus time tables, accommodation links, information about our house for sale, and how to buy it. The travel bit is useful for yachts wintering in Kalamata.

Navigating

Many links open new windows - so you can refer to a map or table while reading the text. Keep both windows minimum size to make this easy. I still  haven't learnt how to make the new windows pop up at the best size . . .

Telling People

If you find the site useful, please tell your friends. It's easy to find - Google 'jimb', 'jimb sail' or 'jimb greece'. And if you find mistakes, have differences of opinion, or wish to add anything - please email us at j.baerselman (at) gmail dot com

Who we Are

We're Jim and Caroline Baerselman, a name of Dutch origin, pronounced 'Barzulman'.  After a 15 year second career as a tour operator (offering sail and windsurf holidays in the Mediterranean) I sold up and bought a boat for me to use . . .

From 1996 to 2006 we sailed the coastlines of Europe - from Scotland to Turkey - living aboard Rapaz, our 40ft yacht. The areas we visited are compared in the Sailing part of this website. We give opinions, not to create a pilot guide (lots of people do that better), but to highlight the 'must sees' and 'don't bothers' we discovered.

We still sail a few weeks each year, but our last long live-aboard cruise was in 2006, after which we bought a summer house in our favourite spot, Finikounda, in the SW Peloponese. The rest of this site is a tourist guide to our area, Messinia, with full information on how to get here from UK, places to see and local rental possibilities.  We've also built a couple of small houses next door - they're for sale.

If you're passing by, txt us on +44 7802 853564, and we'll pop down to the quay to have a beer - and quiz you for opinions and updates.
